[QC] The Gatineau Hot Air Balloon Festival is here to impress


One of the biggest hot air balloon festivals in the world is coming right up to Québec this August! The performers’ line-up as well the numerous number of festivities planned are finally released. Discover more about the events below and get ready for a mesmerizing festival perfect for all ages!

General Information

Festival de Montgolfière Gatineau is an annual festival running from August 29th to September 2nd. The festival’s fun and family-friendly festivities have made it one of the most anticipated events in Québec. In fact, over 200,000 visitors and 1,000 RVs tend to attend every year! The good news is that there are still admission passes available which include the Day passes and the Passports.

Hot Air Balloon Activities

As the name of the festival suggests, Festival de Montgolfière Gatineau’s core surrounds the hot air balloon activities. So if you are looking for a peaceful ride in a hot air balloon, or just want to enjoy the sight of colourful hot air balloons all over the sky this is the place to be.

Hot Air Balloon Flights

Hot air balloon rides will be up and running from Saturday to Monday around 6:30 am and from Thursday to Sunday around 6 pm. Moreover, if you are an early bird you can have free access to the flight site on Saturday, Sunday and Monday from 6:00 am to 8:00 am. In addition, you will be able to enjoy a free yoga session as well. But if you want to actually fly in one of the balloons then you must book a flight in advance and be at the flight site by 5:30 am for the morning flights and 4:30 pm for evening flights. But be aware that the flights are subject to rescheduling and delays depending on the weather conditions.

Flight Prices: $325 plus taxes (per person)

Night Glow, Exploring A Balloon and more!

Ever wonder “how does the inside of a hot air balloon look like?”. Wonder no more as there will be a real hot air balloon envelope for you to explore at the Gatineau festival. This activity will be held from 9 am to 4 pm on Saturday to Monday, but, keep in mind the event is subject to cancellation if the weather is harsh. Moreover, there will be a stunning night illumination event which will take place during the evenings. Lots of adorable balloons with silly designs and colours will lighten up for the visitors to enjoy. Last but not least, you can also talk with the pilots, the balloon crews and attend informative workshops that will teach you all about hot air balloons.

Meet the Pilots: Saturday and Sunday (2 pm – 4 pm)


Variety of artists will be performing at the Gatineau festival some of which are known worldwide. The artists will be performing at the Casino Lac-Leamy Stage and the Hydro-Québec Stage. In addition, the Desjardins Family Stage is also available that aims to entertain kids and adults together with fun and family-friendly skits. To give you an idea, you can expect beloved musicians on these stages such as Claude Dubois, Nickelback, etc. as well as comedy shows and various skits.

Countless Activities

If the above activities are not enough, go on to one of the rides at the Beauce Carnaval amusement park. Still not satisfied? How does jumping on a giant airbag from 10 meters above the ground sound? The FMG’s special Nitrof Giant Airbag event will run on Monday, Saturday and Sunday so don’t miss out on this experience if you are a fan of adrenaline rush. There is quite literally an activity for everyone at this festival. For instance, if you like climbing there is an altitude gym you can try out.
