[Fieldstone King’s College] The Importance of Soft Skills

Society is now looking at soft skills as an important part of the development of a person. But Fieldstone King’s College is ahead in this as it encourages its students to develop these soft skills. Canadian and international students find the inspiration to achieve great things in this co-ed non-denominational school. Furthermore, their students build self-esteem through academic, co-curricular, and social successes. These are encouraged with programs such as Service Learning, where students volunteer in different organizations and the Duke of Edinburgh Award.

Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Programme

Studying in Canada and specifically, in Fieldstone King’s College opens doors to different opportunities. One such opportunity is the Duke of Edinburgh Award. Because of this, it empowers young people, ages 14-25 to make a difference in their own lives and the lives of others. Furthermore, it encourages students to explore their potential, take on challenges, give back to their communities, and achieve success. Award Leaders and assessors guide and support the young students on their journey. So the students can deepen their self-awareness, build confidence, and broaden their soft skills to become responsible citizens.

Importance of Soft Skills

Jeff Needham, Executive Director of the Duke of Edinburgh Award highlighted the importance of soft skills back in 2018. He noted that young people’s soft skills weren’t fully developed. Furthermore, business leaders and educators are seeing that soft skills can help with the long-term success of an individual. If they can start developing these skills earlier in life, then students will be better equipped for the future. Because it is in skills such as effective communication, working well with others, and setting achievable targets and goals, that makes an individual succeed. Additionally, demonstrating initiative, accountability, and reliability will make anyone an asset to their work.

The Duke of Edinburgh Award is a wonderful opportunity for young students to see how they can make a difference. Moreover, this longstanding program recognizes the need to develop the soft skills of students. Just because it isn’t in the school curriculum, doesn’t mean it’s not important. So this is a great opportunity for young leaders to develop the skills that can make them great leaders in the future.
