Students can choose from more than 140 on-campus programs and 60 Open Learning programs. From English language certificates to bachelor’s and master’s degrees, TRU offers great flexibility. Additionally, credits from certificates and diplomas can be applied toward degrees (“laddering”). So students can begin the first year of an open admission degree while simultaneously completing any missing prerequisites.

Admissions Path

From admissions alone, TRU provides many ways for students to succeed. Students can be accepted on conditional admissions. For international students, TOEFL, IELTS, and Cambridge exams are accepted, but not required. Because TRU has their own English exam that students can take instead. Moreover, if a student is taking ESL classes, they can still take their academic studies as well.

Work Opportunities at TRU

Students apply what they learn through co-op placements, undergraduate research, studying abroad, volunteering in the community and more. But even on a regular day, students at TRU have many options when it comes to working. They can work on and off-campus and can even combine study and work programs.

Support for Students

If students need help, there are medical services on campus and personal counselors ready to lend their assistance. Even when it comes to admissions, registration, and academic advising, there is always help available. Moreover, the school also offers assistance in employment services.

The Kamloops Region

Canada is a country of great diversity, culturally as well as environmentally. That diversity is evident at TRU’s Kamloops campus, in a student population that is about 16 percent international. Moreover, more than 3,000 international students represent over 90 countries and 10 percent are Aboriginal. Community-focused both at home and abroad, TRU is closely tied to Kamloops and the Thompson-Okanagan region of about 100,000 people. Moreover, the school cultivates global partnerships with other institutions around the world.

Kamloops lies in a spectacular natural setting of river valleys, semi-arid grasslands, pine forests, lakes, and mountain peaks.  This is the traditional territories of the Secwepemc peoples. A friendly and welcoming city, Kamloops offers a safe and supportive environment, affordability, four seasons of outdoor adventures, a wide range of sporting events and a rich cultural scene. Additionally, the city is a convenient 3.5-hour drive or a 45-minute flight from Vancouver.

The Campus

TRU’s beautiful campus is located close to the city center, surrounded by residential areas, shopping, and services. Additionally, the WolfPack, TRU’s varsity athletes, train on campus in one of the province’s premier recreational facilities, and BC’s largest municipal park is next door. Moreover, two student residences, food services, wireless Internet, a health clinic, two libraries and several student commons for studying and socializing add to TRU’s supportive, inclusive environment.

It’s no wonder students enjoy the environment as well as their academics at TRU. Additionally, students feel comfortable in their new environment and have the support they need from all around. And they can be sure they can succeed in school and their future endeavors.
