The University of Victoria is offering a University Admission Preparation Program entirely online. This is a great option for international students still overseas and for maintaining social distance during COVID19. The program includes two academic courses that will prepare future students for academic writing, reading, and speaking at the university level. The program is a part of the ELC Connect series of online programs, designed for students who want to pursue a UVic degree program or have already been admitted and need some additional language and study skills.
In this program, students will take two courses that will help succeed when they enter a number of undergraduate or graduate programs in North America. The two courses include Academic English for University Entry and Canadian Studies (CS) 101.
So, the Academic English for University Entry course will help polish your skills in areas such as oral presentations, academic listening, reading texts and writing. Next, the Canadian Studies 101 course will help international students prepare with objectives such as enriching cultural understanding. Plus, enhancing academic preparedness by offering individual and small group academic tutorial assistance to international students.
At the end of the program, students will be able to create an annotated bibliography, assess resources, and cite information properly.
These great courses at the University of Victoria include the following features:
- 100 total program hours (approx. 20 per week)
- Two courses: “Academic English for University Entry” and “Introduction to Canadian Studies” (CS 101). Students may receive optional UVic credit for CS 101 course for an additional fee
- Tutorial support by teaching assistants available for both courses
- Certificate of Participation
- Record of Grade from one of Canada’s top comprehensive universities
So, students will be studying in this preparation program for approximately 20 hours a week. Also, there will be about 100 hours total in the program altogether.
This will cost about $3350 for the entirety. So, $150 will go towards the application fee, $350 for the program deposit and the balance of the cost will be for the remaining tuition costs.
To register for this online university preparation program, students must be at least 16 years of age and possess one of the following ELC English Proficiency Test : B2+ or higher, IELTS 6.0 (no section lower than 5.5) or the TOEFL 79 (no section less than 17).
