In a new interview, he tells viewers all about his experience in Alexander College and Vancouver to date, including information on his studies, social life and more!
Kaining Zheng is a recipient of the Fall 2019 Alexander College Scholarship. Students receiving this scholarship were professor recommendations, commending the student’s participation and academic achievement within a particular subject area. For Kaining, this was the computer science professor.
Kaining is pursuing the Computer Science program at Alexander College, and is presently in his second year. This decision was made after taking a couple of computer science and math courses during his first year, which were enjoyable due to the outstanding teachers and subject material. So far, he is really enjoying the major and learning all kinds of programming languages.
In his video, Kaining offers lots of advice on making friends as an international student in Canada. First and foremost, he mentions speaking English with your friends, even if they are fluent in the same first language as you. Next, he makes a point that recommends students make friends with those from other countries, in order to practice speaking English and learn about new cultures. Finally, he says a thing he did especially, in the beginning, is struck up a conversation with strangers while waiting at the bus stop. The relative friendliness of Canadians made this experience helpful and he got to know more people.
So far, Kaining has been enjoying this time as an international student here in Canada. He finds everything relatively safe and is excited to also have his sister here to study as well. He goes further to mention that he recommends international students coming to Canada should definitely choose to study in Vancouver, BC.
We are so happy Kaining is the recipient of the Alexander College Fall 2019 Scholarship in Computing Science. Congratulations Kaining! So far, he is enjoying his time in Canada; taking courses that challenge and excite him, making new friends, practicing English and exploring Vancouver!
