Canada Has One of The Longest Streets in The World


Yonge street is located in Toronto, Ontario that is full of headquarters of corporations, shops, restaurants and clothing stores. Besides the entertainment this street has, it is 1896 km (1178 miles) in length starting from the Lake Shore in Toronto to Rainy River at the Ontario and Minnesota border. Yonge street has even been said to be the longest street in the world.

Yonge Street – One of the Longest Roads Around

It is hard to determine the exact age of Yonge street. Around 1793, Lieutenant Governor of Upper Canada, John Graves Simcoe, contracted to survey a route for Yonge Street from the Township of York to Lake Simcoe, and by 1794 the Queen’s Rangers had begun constructing a road following Jones’ survey. Therefore, 1793 is an estimated date on when Yonge Street was actually constructed.

For the next 100 years, the street’s primary purpose was transportation. This changed with population growth, and Yonge Street became the urban life we know it as today!

Yonge street holds the most well-known entertainment and attractions in the City of Toronto. The street itself is lined with both restaurants and shops alike; get the afternoon shop on and finish it with happy hour appetizers along Yonge! Yonge Street – Home to a Vibrant Services Economy

Yonge Street largely caters towards entertainment; the economy in this area of Toronto is largely made up of entertainment services including dining, shopping, and arts and culture. Beyond these entertainment services, Yonge Street has full of major corporations and even a university; Ryerson University is located just in proximity to Yonge and Dundas Street.
