Do you want to unleash your creativity but don’t know where to start? The field of communication and design is vast and ever evolving. It can feel overwhelming in choosing the right design program because there are too many options available. The interactive media design diploma at Seneca College touches on a variety of design subjects which helps explore many career paths. 

About the Program

This two-year diploma program consists of subjects in design, development, digital strategies and multimedia applications.

Your studies will help you to develop and manage both creative and technical strategies in the fields of design, motion graphics, web technologies, 3D as well as introduction to gaming and visual effects.

International Student Success Stories

Danah came to Toronto, Ontario back in 2016. She visited her relatives in Canada back in 2013 without any plans to study abroad here. After experiencing the lifestyle here, she decided she wanted to live in Canada. She did some research and the best way to immigrate to Canada is through studying here. Danah came across Seneca College’s Interactive Media Design program and it was the perfect match for her. She already had a degree in Marketing and Advertising back in the Philippines while teaching herself graphic design. The program at Seneca helped her improve her skills as a designer and exposed her to more possibilities. She is currently working as a Graphic Designer at Canada’s Largest Automotive group, where they have dealerships from Audi, Porsche, Honda, Mazda across the country.

Work Experience – Internships

As a part of your final semester, you will engage in an independent production and internship opportunity to acquire hands-on experience in the relevant field. Each student will complete a 120-hour field placement/internship as a requirement for graduation. The internship will be completed at the end of fourth semester upon approval of the Coordinator. This opportunity allows students to gain hands-on experience in industry and make connections that will start them off on their careers.

After Graduation Opportunities

User Experience (UX) / User Interface (UI) Design 

UX/UI design involves the usability of technology. The opportunities in this field are vast in Canada. As you can work in gaming studios, tech startups or even at major corporations. The median wage is $45.67 per hour according to the Government of Canada.

Web Development / Design

Web Developers research, design, develop and produce web softwares or websites. They are employed in digital agencies and software firms. The median wage of a web developer is $29.59 per hour according to the Government of Canada. The need for web developers is continuously growing. In the next 10 years, web development careers will remain steady.

3D, Motion and Graphic Design

3D Modellers create realistic environments using specialized three-dimensional software. Motion Designers use animation techniques to create movements of illustrations or 3D Models. Graphic Design involves the creation of visuals.  According to the Government of Canada, these positions belong in the category of Illustrator and Graphic Design and the median wage is $28 per hour. Communication through the digital space becomes increasingly complex as technology advances. Therefore, the need for good designers will fairly increase in the next decade.
