BY

Below update is from Douglas College

Travelling to Canada for new summer 2021 students

We have asked all new students scheduled to start in May 2021 to complete a Study Online Agreement and a Study Permit Confirmation survey. In these forms, we explain what to expect from online classes, request a study permit update and outline the following options:

  • Start the program in May 2021 online inside or outside Canada
  • Defer to the next available intake
  • Request a refund by May 2, 2021

We ask for your cooperation to ensure that our students reply to these mandatory surveys by the posted deadlines.

If your student plans to travel to Canada soon, be sure to visit IRCC website, as well as our Travelling to Canada page and review the College’s COVID-19 FAQs. Please note that all international students arriving in Canada are required to use ArriveCAN before crossing the border to submit travel information and a quarantine plan.

Douglas College’s long-standing partner Illume Student Advisory Services (Illume) has entered into an agreement with Air Canada to support the return of international students to Canadian educational institutions. Douglas College students with a valid study permit will be eligible for a discount on any Air Canada international flight by using the promo code HXZJPD71 to receive a 15% discount on their booking.

New university transfer option for DC Engineering students

The Engineering Foundations Certificate now has a guaranteed transfer pathway to the SFU Sustainable Energy Engineering (SEE) program, on top of other transfer pathways to SFU, UVIC and UBC programs. The Douglas Engineering program allows students to get hands-on skills in their first year, something that many students don’t get until later in their degrees. All courses in this Certificate program are university transferableEngineers Canada’s 2025 Job Market Report predicts over 100,000 engineering job openings until 2025, with the median annual 2021 salary for engineers being $75 200 CAD. Additionally, there is expected to be a shift in economic activity from Eastern Canada to Western Canada, resulting in an increased demand for engineers in British Columbia.

3 ways to “visit” Douglas: live and self-guided virtual campus tours and faculty information sessions

There’s more to a college than its location (although we, Vancouverites, can’t complain!) and ratings. Encourage your student sign up for a campus tour to get insider knowledge of what it’s like to be a Douglas student. In light of the pandemic, we are now offering live tours online by our current students as well as program-specific information sessions. For those located in a different time zone, we recommend self-guided tours of our New Westminster and Coquitlam campuses featuring modern classrooms, labs, social spaces, Career Centre, and much more. Get a sense if you feel at home on our campus! Outside of the tour time, our Admissions team is available to answer questions via the Contact Form.

Fall 2021 tuition fee updates and scholarships

Douglas College announces a slight fee increase from $600 to $612 per credit starting Fall 2021. One year of study will cost $18,360 CAD (30 credits x $612 CAD) plus student fees. Please see our website for a breakdown of our current fees and approximate costs. Douglas College offers nearly $100,000 in entrance scholarships to new international students each year and we encourage your students to apply for Regional and Education entrance awards and learn more about continuing students’ awards.

CAEL agent referral program and scholarships

In the times of the pandemic, many students face the challenge of not being able to book a language test near them. Douglas College accepts CAEL overall and essay score of 60 for direct admission to most of our programs. CAEL test centres are now available in 11 countries including China, Philippines, Vietnam, UAE, Mexico, Brazil and Columbia. CAEL provides incentives for agents looking for partnership including discounts, free test materials, practice tests and instructor training. For CAEL test takers, $500-4000 scholarships are available.
