BY

There are always ways to find fun in the sun! Summer 2021 plans in Canada may still up in the air in the face of the Covid-19 crisis, but that doesn’t mean summer is cancelled. Cook-up a great Canadian BBQ in the safety of your social bubble to enjoy some tasty grub and vitamin-D!

The Great Canadian BBQ

Canadian’s love barbecues, and for good reason! Barbecue, or BBQ for short, refers to both an outdoor meal, and the grill on which it’s cooked.

BBQ’s are a cherished event combining delicious food, drinks, sun and socialising. They can be hosted by an individual or family, or be potlucks where all attending bring a dish. This summer, barbecues will likely be intimate affairs to enjoy with your social bubble. So, here are some lick-smacking dishes to grill up!

First, How to cook on a Barbecue

The most common barbecues in Canada are actually outdoor grills. The most popular are propane fuelled. Food is cooked on a grill over an open flame, making for easy and tasty cooking!

Best BBQ Dishes

Canadian’s love just about anything cooked on an open grill. The nations’s favourites BBQ foods are steak, corn on the cob, hamburgers, and sausages. However, ribs, salmon, shrimp, kabobs, grilled veggies and even grilled fruit grace the BBQ! Just about anything can be cooked on a BBQ, which is one of the beautiful things about it.

There is one favourite BBQ dish that isn’t prepared on a grill, and that’s potato salad, a cold side-dish generally containing potatoes, egg, mayonnaise and seasoning.

Sun and Fresh Air

One of the best things about having a barbecue is the opportunity to enjoy the sun, fresh air and long hours of summer sunlight. Due to it’s northern position, Canada enjoys long summer days. The sun rises early and set late- around 8:30pm in most major cities! This meaning beautiful sunny days, long dusky evenings, and lots of fun outdoors.

BBQ’s are great because you can enjoy them from your backyard, patio, or local park(if adhering to regulation). So, take in the sun and some sizzling BBQ!

Enjoy Canada’s long summer nights
