The pandemic has been going on for more than 1 year and it is greatly affecting the labor market in multiple ways. The Healthcare section has been on a rollercoaster. Since the pandemic started, healthcare worker has become a very demanding job in terms of quality and quantity. The current labor market is seeing 141,700 job openings in Health Care and Social Assistance; which is 16.5 percent of total job openings.


Immigration is playing a key role in Canada’s healthcare system. Data from December 2020 showed that immigrants comprised 42.8 percent of nurse aides, orderlies, and patient services in Canada. This number will grow as part of the government’s outlook of inviting more skilled immigrants in the future.


Some of the most appearing activities in healthcare are vaccine administration, testing administration, hospital treatment, and disease control and prevention. These activities are of utmost importance during the pandemic era. Other job positions include ambulatory health care services, hospitals, nursing, and residential care facilities, and social assistance.
All the job positions related to the Health Care and Social Assistance sector require applicants to have a degree-level background.
