Quick Guide to Study In-demand field of Accounting in Canada


Accounting personnel are required to summarize and analyze the funds. This is vital to the management of any type of companies. Accounting is also considered the pillar of the company’s decision-making process. Canada has various kinds of taxes and puts great importance to taxation. Therefore, the demand for accountants will continuously remain high.

Career Pathways of Accounting

The accounting field covers a wide range of areas, including assurance, auditing, taxation, corporate accounting, management accounting, financial management, bankruptcy liquidation, forensic accounting, budget formulation, business consulting, etc. Therefore, almost all Canadian colleges and universities offer accounting majors, and most of their courses cover concepts of Canadian business law, income tax, management accounting, intermediate accounting, data analysis, etc. Students will also learn to use professional accounting software such as Quickbook, Simply Accounting, etc. Certain CPA courses would (CPA is the abbreviation of Certified Public Accountant) provide paid internships to help students accumulate accounting work experience in advance. Through internships, students would be able to equip themselves for CPA in the future, expand their network and accumulate work experience.

Qualifications and Work Experience

Many Canadian companies focus and value on students’ qualifications and work experience more than their grades at school. Certified accountants can choose to work in accounting firms, governments, or non-profit organizations. However, if you are a new immigrant in Canada, you would need to obtain a three-year work permit after graduation and engages in an accounting profession that meets the requirements of EE immigration.
