Vaccinated Travellers Entering Canada: Here is What You Need to Know

BY

From October 30, Canadian airport passengers, passengers traveling via VIA Rail and Rocky Mountaineer trains, and passengers traveling on non-essential passenger ships for a voyage of 24 hours or more, such as cruise ships, will require vaccinations.

Before Boarding

Vaccinations will be required for all travellers before they are allowed to board. In particular, the vaccination requirement applies to all travellers 12 years of age and older who are:

  • Air travelers flying from Canadian airports to domestic, transborder, or international destinations
  • Rocky Mountaineer and VIA Rail passengers
  • Passengers traveling on non-essential passenger vessels for longer than 24 hours, such as cruise ships

In the case of travellers undergoing the process of being vaccinated, there will be a short transition period during which they will be able to travel if they can show proof of a valid COVID-19 molecular test within 72 hours of travel.

As of November 30, all travellers must be fully vaccinated. There are exceptions in specific cases, such as emergency travel, and those medically unable to receive vaccinations.

Travel exemptions for fully vaccinated travelers

As a fully vaccinated traveler, you are:

  • You must submit a molecular test before you enter
  • Use of ArriveCAN is mandatory
  • Not subject to quarantine
  • Not subject to Day-8 testing

Any traveler who is fully vaccinated can enter Canada regardless of citizenship. Canadians are subject to the same requirements. When you meet the requirements for fully vaccinated travelers, you are also exempt from doing on-arrival testing, unless you are chosen for a mandatory randomized test. As a provider of essential services or if you qualify for other exemptions, you do not need to be fully vaccinated to enter Canada.
