Wilfrid Laurier University (WLC) is a historic university in Canada. It was established in 1911 and has a history of 110 years. It is named after the seventh Prime Minister of Canada, Mr. Sir. Wilfrid Laurier. The university has opened the Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Science, Faculty of Music, Faculty of Education, the Faculty of Business, and the Faculty of Economics. The Faculty of Business is one of Canada’s largest and most prestigious business schools and the largest paid internship business school. In 1976, Laurier University was the first University to offer a paid internship program in the business field in Canada. It is one of the first AACSB-accredited Canadian business schools. In 1986, Laurier launched Canada’s earliest one-year MBA, and its undergraduate business administration education has been ranked first in Canada by the world’s traditional institutions for many years. The paid internship (co-op) of WLC has a long history and covers a wide range of majors, and the salary level of the internship is also very high. The program combines the internationally recognized Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree with the Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Computer Science to create a double degree program. It provides students with technical knowledge, such as analytical skills.

Business Administration (BA) and Financial Math (BA)

Financial Mathematics over five years of study. In Mathematics, students will build their knowledge on quantitative expertise for analyzing business industry risk and understanding the theories and methods necessary to succeed in finance. In the business course, learn about internal and external business structures and processes while developing the skills to manage them.

Collaborating With The University of Waterloo – Double Degree Program

Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Economics, Economics and Accounting, or Economics and Financial Management

This specialization provides a competitive advantage for students to complete the Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) qualification through a combination of policy-focused economics education and accounting specialist training. After undergraduate graduation, you can continue to meet the Graduate Diploma in Accounting (consisting of five courses in one semester) to complete the course requirements from Core 1 to Elective 2 of the CPA Education section. Film Studies (BA)

The Film Studies major demonstrates the vital role of visual media in our world today. This major is designed for students to study the experience of film and visual media in the contemporary world. Laurier University’s Film Studies major has Canada’s top film program.

Students enter the field of film studies by taking three broad introductory courses in their first year. This major offers classes in film genres, theory, film history, national cinema, and other topics as upper-division courses. The major is in partnership with the Vancouver Film School and has ongoing community engagement, including the Grand River Film Festival.

Students will take classes at Laurier University in their first and second year, followed by Vancouver Film School (VFS) in Year 3 (typically beginning in early May, late June, or late August), and then they will return to WLC to continue their upper-division courses.

WLC is the only Canadian university that offers a music therapy program. It ranks in the top 6 percent of universities worldwide. User Experience Design (UX)(BDes)

User Experience Design (UX Design) combines people’s interests in design and technology, learning how to make people’s experience of a product, service, or environment a positive one. First, gather information about people and their needs, then design a solution. User experience (UX) design can be applied to the web, 3D and immersive environments, processes, and services. This principle can be used in technology, finance, medicine, education, entertainment, etc.

User experience designers seek to create new things for the world by combining creativity, strategic design thinking, user research, and social awareness. As a result, UX professionals are in high demand and ranked among the top 100 best jobs.

This major provides students with design thinking, interaction design, information architecture, project management, and entrepreneurship. UXD students at Laurier University also work directly with local companies and community organizations to create design solutions for their content, product, and service needs.

What Should Students Do If Their Grades (GPA) Have Not Met the Requirements to Apply to Wilfrid Laurier University?

Another pathway to enter is to study academic courses alongside language studies through Laurier University’s Bridge Program. When students meet specific GPA requirements, they can directly apply for admission to the second-year program at Laurier University in the second year. Save time and money.

Wilfrid Laurier International college, known as WLIC, provides a bridge course to Laurier University to help students enter Laurier University smoothly.

The courses and teaching approach of WLIC allow international students the opportunity to fully prepare for university and to make a smooth transition to study at Wilfrid Laurier University.

University Transfer Program (UTP) Phase 1

An eight-month preparatory course was designed to bridge secondary school and university study.

University Transfer Program (UTP) Phase II

A first-year university program designed to support student’s transition to Canada. Upon successfully completing UTP II, students progress to second-year study at WLC. There are five options for students to choose from at Phase II.

Entry Requirement for Phase II

Liberal Arts, Humanities, and Humanities and Social Sciences majors:
  • Domestic high school students: Graduated from high school; average score of 70 points or more in 4 grade-12 courses
  • Canadian local students: Graduated from high school, with an average score of 65 or more in 4 grade-12 courses
Business and Economics and Science majors:
  • Domestic high school students: Graduated from high school; the average score of 4 main grade-12 courses are above 70, and the score in grade-12 Mathematics of senior three is not less than 80.
  • Canadian local students: Graduated from high school, with an average score of 65 or more in 4 grade 12 courses, and a minimum score of 67 in Mathematics
