Due to continuous technological development in Calgary, Alberta recently launched a new immigration program called the “Accelerated Tech Pathway” to support the city’s further development. The program is designed to attract new immigrants with a strong background and experience in the technology field. The program is hoping to diversify Alberta’s economy and support the tech industry’s development. Eligible applicants could apply for permanent residence within six months.
The 2021 Alberta Technology Deal Flow Study states that Alberta is now home to more than 3,000 technology companies, an increase of 233% since 2012, where these companies are continuing to expand and grow. Both in terms of funding size (43% of tech startups have raised at least $1 million in funding) and profitability (40% of companies are profitable, 38% of which have more than CAD$1 million in revenue), and employees Growth (companies with more than 25 employees increased by 12% between 18 and 20 years, to 25% overall). As a result, these tech companies face talent challenges, especially in sales (39%) and technology (36%).
