About the Program

Fashion Design, a three-year advanced diploma program at Fanshawe College, provides professional training in a variety of areas like illustration, visual communication, computer-aided design, business marketing, and hands-on garment construction. The program also emphasizes courses that teach design analysis, apparel manufacturing, as well as design communications and marketing. Relevant skills are honed during class lectures, lab work, and field trips so that students are ready to apply their knowledge of apparel design in the fashion industry upon graduation.

Skills Gained

On campus, students will be able to meet and connect with industry professionals, and will be provided with co-op opportunities to gain hands-on experience. They will aid in the creation of apparel lines, assist in the management of production of products, and tailor custom clothing for clients. As the program aims to prepare students for the Canadian and North American fashion industry, students will be required to present a capstone project to demonstrate their learning, as well as a showcasing of a final collection in their third year of study. Having created a robust and professional portfolio by the time of graduation, students will be well-qualified to work in a variety of positions upon graduating the program.
