Learning Tourism Management for a Successful Career in Canada

Where Can Students Learn Tourism Management?

Capilano University offers a variety of incredible courses and programs, many students around the world have the option to travel to British Columbia, and have the opportunity to apply to this school, where Capilano offers a variety of courses for international students. 

Tourism Management International

This is a 2 year long diploma, known as Tourism Management international. Unlike normal classrooms that require you to sit in a room to learn for a long period of time, Tourism Management allows students to complete hands-on activities and join instructors on field trips, making each day of learning different.

What are the Admission Requirements for students?

Before getting into this diploma, Capilano asks for specific requirements that need to be met in order to be admitted into this program. Although this program is for international students who speak English as a second language, there are a variety of English tests that need to be taken.

Take one of the following English Language Assessment Tests:
  • Test of English as a Foregin Language 
    • (TOEFL) Online Test: 83
    • Written Test: 560
  • English Language Assessment (ELA):
    • Minimum Mark: 145
  • Academic IELTS (International English Language Testing System)
    • Minimum Mark of 6.5
  • Canadian English Language Assessment (CAEL)
    • Minimum mark: 70
  • DET (Duolingo English Test) Accepted Until Fall of 2022
    • Minimum Mark: 110

What can students learn from these courses?

Finally, once you are admitted into the university, there are a mix of required courses, and various electives that students can take. In Tourism Management, this program sets you up to learn about the following:

  • Hotel Businesses 
  • Events management 
  • Marketing

What Are Some Required Courses for Tourism Management International?

Contemporary Mathematics

Helps students understand critical thinking and quantitative skills. Students can use this course to focus on interest rates, percentages, and statistics. 

Introduction to statistics 

Students focus on the estimation of parameters and testing hypotheses. This class has a prerequisite, where you are supposed to take a Maths placement test, and receive a minimum grade of a C +. 

Public speaking

Students overcome shyness, and develop the skills to present as a speaker for a variety of topics. Skills focused in this course are the following:

  • Voice training 
  • Nonverbal communication
  • Strategies for timing presentations 

There are a large number of courses that you are required to take in order to complete this diploma, and can set you up for the ideal job and career you are looking for. Each course is worth 3 credits, and you are required to complete 60 credits worth of classes, so you are asked to take up to 20 classes in total.

What jobs can students get once they graduate from Tourism Management?

Once the required electives and classes for this program are completed, students have a wide range of jobs that they can sign up for. There are a lot of transferable skills that are given to students who graduate, and depending on your interests and skills that you receive, you can look into a lot of careers for your future.
