SPC Cards and Why You Should Get One

Intro

If you’re a student, you know that every cent or dollar counts. If you don’t want to miss any deals or are looking for that heavily discounted price, you’ll want to consider getting an SPC Card for yourself!

What is an SPC Card?

An SPC card, also known as the Student Price Card, is a special loyalty card that has been specifically created to help students save money. It offers student pricing and provides discounts, contests and special limited-time offers on items for activities, fashion, food, and even services such as car repairs, booking flights or cell phone plans at participating retailers across Canada. Because it can be used both in-store and online, the SPC Card is very popular among many people. However, here’s the catch: the card is available to students only! So, if you are 13 years or older, or are a student who is currently enrolled in high school, college, or university, you are most definitely eligible for the card and all the deals that come with it!

Where Do I Get One?

Although the SPC Card was once offered both physically and digitally, they have gone fully online as of 2022. All you need to do is to open the App Store on your phone and search for the SPC app. You can also register online at spccard.ca. It costs $10 to sign up for a membership and to receive your personal (and digital) SPC card.

You can also get one for free. Yes, free! SPC in Canada has partnered with CIBC to offer student pricing, deals and discounts, including free SPC membership and exclusive access to SPC+ (which offers more deals, special experiences and giveaways). If you’re curious about this deal, head over to CIBC.com/SPC and explore their Student Hub for more information.

What Stores Can I Use the SPC Card for?

SPC Canada is partnered with over 450 retailers, where you can show your SPC app and receive a discount of 10% to 15%. Below are just some of the stores you can currently shop and get a discount at:

  • H&M: 10% off regular and sale merchandise (online only)
  • Apple: Save on a new Mac or iPad with Apple education pricing
  • Adidas: Save 25% off regular-priced products + 15% OFF sale
  • DoorDash: 30% off of your first order (SPC+ only)
  • Booking.com: Up to 50% off online only
  • Red Bubble: 15% off for SPC+ members

*For all discounts and deals, terms and conditions apply.

How Do I Redeem an Offer In-Store or Online?

In-Store

It’s simple! Because the SPC Card is only available digitally, all you need to do is to open the SPC app on your phone and display your digital membership to the staff when you pay.

Online

If you’re looking to redeem an offer online, head over to the SPC website and open the deals page. After you select your favorite online offers, you’ll be required to click the “Copy Code” button. Doing so will redirect you to the partner website where you’ll continue to follow  instructions on how to redeem your card offer. If you’ve already added your discounted items on the SPC app, you can open up each offer and tap “Redeem Online”. Once again, you’ll be redirected to the partner website where you’ll be required to click the “Copy Code” button at the bottom of the page.

In some cases, you may be asked to present valid student identification to use or redeem your offer. SPC partners have the right to refuse offers if your ID is not provided or is deemed unsatisfactory, so make sure to upload your student ID to the SPC app before you go shopping!

Can I buy or give someone an SPC Card?

Of course! Once you purchase an SPC Card for someone, the recipient will receive their membership. The recipient can then follow instructions on the SPC website on how to create a new account and activate their membership.

Beware!

Although you’ll be saving lots of money with your new card, SPC memberships don’t last forever! Memberships are valid for one year from the date you activate your membership. To avoid having your membership and card expire, you can opt to turn on both the auto-renew function and the add-a-payment option on the app so that your membership will automatically renew itself every year.
