Columbia College, located in Vancouver, British Columbia, has been providing quality education since 1936. Communication is required in every field, and this Program prepares the students to excel in the latest communication trends. Students learn about the various critical approaches to new media and information technology, especially those used in today’s world. It also prepares students to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Communication.

Communication is a vast subject, and students should understand its principles and dimensions. Students are taught about the areas related to communication, such as advertising, public relations, informational technology, digital media, political economy, and television.

Study Fast Track Option

The students have an option to complete the courses in a shorter amount of time. This can be achieved if the students can take more courses and completes them in 16 months if they wish. This can be accomplished by taking a maximum of five courses each semester.

Courses include communication basics and theories, new media, advertising, intercultural communication, television, the social history of media, and more.

Must include: All requirements of an Associate of Arts Degree

20 courses (minimum 60 credits) of 1st & 2nd year courses, to include at least 6 courses (minimum 18 credits) in Arts at the 2nd year level, taken in two or more subject areas.

After completing this course, students can work in various industries like 

  • Advertising and Marketing

The job opportunities include Communication Consultant, Advertising consultant, Media Relations Coordinator

  • Journalism

Students can work as photojournalists, Social Media Community managers, Blog Writer, Copywriter and Multimedia Specialist

  • Public Relations

Public Relations Specialists are required in almost every organization. Professions include Fundraising Specialist, Communications Assistant, Campaign Organizer, Event Planner 

  • Film and Television

Editor, Writer, Interpreter and many more

English Language Requirements

IELTS or International English Language Testing System: Students need to achieve a minimum of 6.5 overall with 6.5 in writing

Duolingo: A minimum of 115 is required

TOEFL: A minimum of 88

English For Academic Purpose (EAP)

Columbia College also offers a comprehensive English for Academic Purposes (EAP) program, designed to support academic delivery. Experienced instructors are skilled to make adaptations in the curriculum to make sure that all the topics are understood by the students.

The following documents are required:

  • Transcripts of the most recent school results
  • High School Graduation Certificate (for applicants to university programs)
  • Copy of the personal information page in your passport
  • English Proficiency Results – IELTS, TOEFL, etc (if applicable)

The college processes applications upon receipt of all required documents and issues an offer of admission to successful applicants within two weeks.

Career Support

Individual Career Services are also provided to Columbia College students through various workshops and programs so that students can prepare for their future jobs well in advance. Students are helped with:

  • Resume and cover letter improvement
  • Career and employment-themed workshops (networking, enhancing interviewing skills, job search techniques, etc.)
  • Assisting students through formal and informal assessments

Study, Work and Stay

Columbia College regularly posts job opportunities on campus, which benefits students who want to combine their studies with valuable work experience on or off campus.

Study permits allow students to work 20 hours per week during regular academic sessions and full-time between semesters. Students who qualify for post-graduate work permits in Canada can take advantage of staying and working in the country after graduation.
