(1) Career-Focused Education

KPU has a strong reputation for providing career-focused education, with programs designed to prepare students for success in the workforce. The university offers programs in various fields, including business, healthcare, trades, design, and technology. Many of these programs include hands-on learning experiences, such as co-op placements, practicums, and internships, which allow students to gain valuable industry experience and build professional networks.

International learning opportunities for 2023 include:

  • Study Abroad: Exchange Semesters
  • Field Schools
  • Summer Schools
  • Virtual Internship
  • Virtual Academic Courses
  • Nursing Global Experience

(2) Small Class Sizes

The student-to-faculty ratio at KPU is about 20:1 (20,000+ students to 1,400+ faculty and staff), meaning students can benefit from personalized attention and support from their instructors. The university’s small class sizes, each of which allows for around 35 students per classroom, allow for more interactive and engaging learning experiences and opportunities for students to ask questions, participate in discussions, and receive feedback from their instructors.

(3) Equity, Diversity and Inclusion

According to KPU’s website on Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, Kwantlen, a name bestowed to them by the Kwantlen First Nation, translates to “tireless runner”. As such, KPU “[recognizes] that advancing equity, diversity, inclusion and decolonization (EDID) depends on the ongoing work and tireless commitment of all KPU community members.”

The university has a strong focus on social justice and equity and offers a wide range of resources and support services to help students from diverse backgrounds succeed. These include support services for Indigenous students, LGBTQ+ students, international students, and students with disabilities.

(4) Innovative Programs

KPU is known for its innovative programs, designed to meet the needs of a rapidly changing world. The university offers programs in emerging fields such as sustainable agriculture, entrepreneurship, and cybersecurity, as well as traditional programs in fields such as nursing, education, and engineering. KPU’s programs are regularly updated to reflect changes in industry trends and demands, ensuring that students receive a relevant and up-to-date education.

(5) Accessible Facilities

KPU has five modern, high-tech campuses spread over 1 million square feet of buildings across British Columbia: in Richmond, Surrey, Cloverdale, Langley and Civic Plaza. All of the campuses are accessible to those with mobility and/or visual impairments, and a purpose-built facility was opened in January 2018 at KPU Richmond. KPU’s libraries are also accessible to the public.

(6) Community Engagement

KPU is deeply engaged with its local community and is committed to making a positive impact through its research, teaching, and service. The university has partnerships with local businesses, non-profit organizations, and government agencies, and offers a wide range of community-focused programs and initiatives. Students at KPU can benefit from these partnerships and initiatives, gaining valuable experience and making a difference in their local community.

In addition to these benefits, KPU offers a supportive and inclusive learning environment, with a wide range of student services and resources available. These include academic advising, tutoring, mental health and wellness support, and career services. The university also has a vibrant student community, with numerous clubs, organizations, and events that offer opportunities for socializing, networking, and personal growth.
