About the Accounting program

VCC’s Accounting program is designed to help students learn various business principles, financial management, taxation, and auditing—aspects of accounting that students must develop their skills in to be successful accountants. The program covers a wide range of topics essential for understanding the financial world, including mathematics, communications, economics, and management. By combining theoretical knowledge with practical skills, the Accounting program ensures that its graduates are well-prepared to tackle the challenges and opportunities they will encounter in their professional careers.

  • Auditing: How to assess the reliability and integrity of financial information, conduct internal and external audits, identify risks, and ensure compliance with auditing standards
  • Application: How to apply principles, theories, lessons, and skills to real-world situations
  • Software: How to use various software tools for bookkeeping, financial analysis, and reporting
  • Management: How to develop managerial decision-making skills to contribute to an organization’s strategic development
  • Communication: How to communicate effectively as a business professional, apply critical-thinking skills and problem-solving techniques in ambiguous situations and uphold social responsibility/sustainability/ethics in work

Future Career Opportunities

VCC’s Accounting program aligns with the requirements of esteemed professional accounting bodies, such as the Chartered Professional Accountants (CPA) of Canada. Thus, graduates may choose to further their studies and complete examinations to become CPAs or pursue other designations like Certified Management Accountant (CMA) or Certified General Accountant (CGA).
