About Maple Ridge

Maple Ridge, nestled in the northeastern part of Metro Vancouver, British Columbia, is a city known for its captivating natural setting and unique history. Positioned alongside the northern banks of the Fraser River, Maple Ridge enjoys the scenic backdrop of the Coast Mountain range to the north, and a picturesque landscape filled with forests.

The city is British Columbia’s 5th-oldest municipality after New Westminster, Victoria, Langley and Chilliwack, and is currently home to an estimated 96,378 people. Despite its small size, Maple Ridge boasts a lively community that thrives on outdoor activities, with plenty of opportunities for hiking, cycling, and exploration in the numerous parks that dot the region.

Arts, theatre & culture

Like many of the surrounding cities, Maple Ridge offers a diverse arts, theatre and culture scene. The Maple Ridge Museum, which tells stories of the Katzie First Nation group and the pioneer settlement period, describes the fascinating journey of the history and development of the Maple Ridge community throughout the 1900s. On the lower floor of the museum is a display of a late 1920s era model railway diorama, which signifies the influence of the Canadian Pacific Railway on Canadian history.

The ACT Arts Centre, on the other hand, stands as a focal point for the performing arts, offering a range of theatrical productions, musical performances and visual art exhibitions for both locals and visitors to see. Public art installations further decorate Maple Ridge’s cultural landscape, with the city demonstrating a commitment to infusing public spaces with creativity. From sculptures to murals, these art installations contribute to the city’s aesthetic appeal and serve as a testament to its support for the arts.

Shopping & dining

Maple Ridge is embarking on a journey to become the City of Foodies. Why? Because there is a growing number of restaurants that offer dishes made with local and high-quality ingredients. Popular restaurants in 2021 include Golden Ears Cheesecrafters, Hopcott’s Bistro, Silver Valley Brewing, Andiamo’s Pizza & Pasta House, and Aburiya Sushi.

The city has quite a few districts for shoppers, too. 224 Street, a quiet and quaint area, is dotted with several boutique shops, including a tea and gift shop, a candle shop, a children’s boutique store, jewellery and art stores, home décor, and so on. Dewdney Shopping Corridor is another shopping district that mainly focuses on food: bakeries, breweries, gastro pubs, and more.

Outdoor recreation

Maple Ridge is a paradise for anyone who enjoys the outdoors. From horseback riding and fishing to golfing, snowboarding and biking, the surrounding landscape offers an array of recreational activities that capitalize on, well, its stunning natural surroundings. Other recreational activities include bowling, curling, skating, swimming, bouldering, and working out at the local fitness and leisure centres.
