Snowstorm Forces Cancellation of Classes Across Metro Vancouver and Fraser Valley on January 17

Due to heavy snowfall and the expectation of 20 cm of snow, various public educational institutions in Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley have announced the cancellation of classes on January 17.

List of closed institutions:

School District

  • Abbotsford
  • Burnaby
  • Chilliwack
  • Coquitlam/Port Coquitlam/Port Moody
  • Delta
  • Langley
  • Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows
  • Mission
  • New Westminster
  • North Vancouver
  • Richmond
  • Surrey and White Rock
  • Vancouver 
  • West Vancouver 

Post-secondary institutions

  • UBC: cancelling in-person learning activities on the Vancouver campus for all of Jan. 17. Classes may move online.
  • SFU: All in-person SFU activities are cancelled. All online classes will proceed as scheduled.
  • BCIT: All in-person classes and exams are cancelled – including full-time and Flexible Learning classes. If your class or work is available online, this closure does not impact you.
  • KPU: All in-person classes and in-person services at KPU are cancelled.
  • VCC: On-campus classes cancelled.
  • Capilano University: Main campus, Lonsdale, kálax-ay and Squamish campuses are all closed.
  • Langara College: All in-person classes are cancelled at all campuses.Online classes continue remotely.
  • Douglas College: All in-person and online classes, activities and events are cancelled.
  • Coquitlam College: The Vancouver and Surrey campuses are closed. Online classes continue as scheduled.
  • Columbia College: Columbia College Main Campus and North Campus are closed.
  • Blanche macdonald Centre: All onsite classes are cancelled. Online classes will be in session for the esthetics program.
