About the Surrey School District

With its commitment to excellence, innovation, and cultural diversity, the Surrey School District has established itself as a trailblazer in the international education field. Situated in British Columbia and located just 40 minutes southeast of the city of Vancouver, this school district offers a diverse educational experience for local and international students living in Surrey and White Rock.

  • Surrey SD is the largest public school district in all of British Columbia
  • Surrey SD has 100+ elementary schools and 21 secondary schools
  • Currently, there are 83,000 students, and no more than 5% of international students are in each school
  • 87% of recent international student graduates were accepted into one or more Canadian universities

With over 200 languages being spoken in the city, Surrey SD places a strong emphasis on developing global competencies in its students. Through its academic principles and international education program, students are equipped with the skills necessary to succeed in an increasingly interconnected and interdependent world.

Surrey’s Secondary Schools

Surrey SD is home to 21 secondary schools, and we’ll cover some of the most popular ones in this section. Note that applications for September 2024 are now open, and students can start the process here

Fraser Heights 

Number of students: 1,400

Fraser Heights Secondary School is renowned for its strong academic performance across all high school curricula. Senior students at FH have the unique opportunity to enroll in a two-year Science Academy, enabling them to earn first-year Chemistry or Computer Science credits at Simon Fraser University.

North Surrey

Nestled in a quiet residential area, North Surrey Secondary School offers an extensive Science and Mathematics program, and has dedicated lab spaces for students to excel in technology-focused courses. NS is also home to an award-winning marching band that has performed and competed all over the world.

Johnston Heights

Number of students: 1,400

Johnston Heights Secondary School is situated in the heart of Surrey, and empowers students to thrive in the school’s diverse program offerings. These include a series of AP courses in math, applied skills, arts and other areas. As the only World School in the city, JH also hosts the International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Program for Grade 8-10 students. JH also how has the Senior IB Diploma for Grade 11/12 students.

Salish

Number of students: 1,300

One of the largest schools in the district, Salish Secondary School is located in the burgeoning community of Clayton Heights, and is strategically designed to align with the latest curriculum and teaching methodologies. The school proudly offers a spectrum of academics, including AP courses, Engineering and French Immersion.

Lord Tweedsmuir

Nestled in the heart of downton Cloverdale, Lord Tweedsmuir Secondary School stands as a hub for strong academics and a renowned Fine and Performing Arts program that covers the ins and outs of Film and TV Production. LT proudly houses one of the province’s most successful, extensive and diverse Athletic programs.

Panorama Ridge

Number of students: 1,600

Like many other schools, Panorama Ridge offers a variety of AP courses, a Fine Arts program that focuses on dance, jazz and concert bands, and a variety of Business courses that explore popular topics like e-commerce and marketing. Students are often engaged with the school’s competitive sports teams and clubs.
