Things to Do During Family Day Weekend in Vancouver and Toronto

What is Family Day?

In Canada, Family Day originated in Alberta as a tribute to the fundamental role of home and family among its early settlers. The inaugural Family Day was celebrated in 1990. Over the following two decades, several other provinces across Canada embraced this occasion:

  • 2007: Saskatchewan
  • 2008: Ontario
  • 2013: British Columbia
  • 2018: New Brunswick

When is Family Day?

The third Monday in February falls on the 19th of this year.

Vancouver

Burnaby Village Museum

11:45 am and 1:45 pm:

Experience South Asian culture with music, dance, and art! Join an interactive Bollywood dance workshop led by award-winning dancer Karima Essa. 

11 am to 3:45 pm:

Contribute to a community mural featuring the art of Jag Nagra. Use wooden printing blocks from Jaipur, India, for a hands-on experience.

Carousel rides are available for $2.52 plus tax, with the last ride at 3:45 pm. Due to construction, only the Carousel Pavilion and plaza will be open.

Admission: FREE!

Bill Copeland Sports Centre – Family day toonie skate

Have a great time skating with your family, enjoying roaming entertainers, indulging in a pancake breakfast, getting your face painted, and creating crafts. Furthermore, take advantage of our special guest, a live DJ!

9 am-1:30 pm: Skate 

9-11:30 am: Pancake Breakfast 

9:15 am-1:30 pm: Entertainment

Age: All ages (3 children: 1 adult ratio)

Fee: $2 (includes skate and helmet rental). Free for children three years and under.

Stanley Park – Woods and Wetlands Walk

Discover what lies beneath the surface of the lagoon and who gracefully flutters among the trees in our casual nature outing. Join us for a stroll or roll around the Lagoon and adjacent forested trails with SPES Educator Julia Taylor. Delve into the details of the Lagoon’s creation, and its significance as a wildlife habitat, and learn about the fascinating features of our woods and wetlands!

When: 17 February | 10:00 am – 11:30 am PST

Where: Nature House on Lost Lagoon (located near the intersection of Alberni and Chilco Street, underneath the viewing platform)
