BC PNP Newest Updates: March 19th, 2024

On March 19th, 2024 The Ministry of Municipal Affairs will be making some changes to the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP) in January 2025. This will help create more transparent pathways that better serve international workers aiming to come to BC. A more detailed summary of all the changes will be available later this year. To ensure you are up to date with the new criteria be sure to review the BC PNP  Skills Immigration Program Guide.

The reason for these changes is for future applicants to have all the knowledge available to them regarding the level of education required, language skills and more to obtain the best chance of being nominated. This will help eliminate the false representation that the BC PNP is the easier way to obtain permanent residency. Providing the limited number of BC PNP nominations sent out each year. It is important to note that meeting the minimum specific program eligibility does not necessarily guarantee one will receive an invitation to apply. (ITA)

What areas of the BC PNP are being updated?

The Graduate Stream: The present-day International Graduate and International Post-Graduate streams will be reintegrated with three new streams:

  1. The Bachelor’s stream will be for recently graduated students with bachelor’s degrees from eligible post-secondary institutions. Graduates with an indeterminate full-time job offer will be able to register for this stream.
  2. The Master’s stream will be for recently graduated students with a master’s degree from an eligible post-secondary institution, no specific field of study is required. Graduates will need a minimum of a one-year full-time job offer in a skilled job to be able to register.
  3. The Doctorate stream will be for recent graduates in a doctoral-level program from eligible post-secondary institutions. Graduates and PhD applicants can apply directly to this stream.

International students who complete a diploma or certificate program in Canada will not be eligible for these three new graduate streams however, they may still qualify for other BC PNP streams.

The language proficiency level will also increase across all programs, except for the Health Authority stream which has already been adjusted. A new minimum of the Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) is actively being modified for the new graduate streams to reflect a CLB 8.
