Jackie’s Journey to Becoming a Laser Esthetic Technician

Having an open mind and a passion for adventure can lead you to great places in life. For Jackie Aoki, these qualities guided her through a transformative year at Blanche Macdonald’s Global Esthetics/Medical Esthetics Program and into a fulfilling career as an Advanced Skin Specialist and Laser Esthetic Technician at SKN Clinic.

Jackie’s journey to SKN Clinic as a laser esthetics technician began shortly after she graduated from Blanche Macdonald’s program. She had known about the clinic for some time and admired its focus on Eastern medicine, Medical Esthetics, laser treatments, and skin nutrition.

“I love my job and working as a laser esthetics technician at SKN. But it’s more than that. SKN is a lot like Blanche Macdonald. It’s a sisterhood: no drama, women with great work ethics supporting each other in a wonderful work environment.”

Overcoming challenges: from Tokyo to Vancouver

Originally from Tokyo, Japan, Jackie immigrated to Vancouver, where she encountered challenges in her new surroundings. Feeling insecure in her unfamiliar environment, as a young mother with English as a second language, she lacked confidence. Eager to learn a new skill and embark on a career path, Jackie found herself contemplating her future while working at Starbucks, often engaging in conversations with her regular customers. One such regular suggested she pursue further education in a field she enjoyed. Initially considering becoming a Shiatsu Massage Therapist, Jackie ultimately decided against it, stating, “I wanted a profession I could do for a long time that was hands-on, but not so reliant on my body.”

Following her heart: Choosing Esthetics

Jackie’s passion for massage and skinship, a term for non-sexual physical closeness, led her to choose Esthetics at Blanche Macdonald. She believes in the power of human touch, emphasizing its irreplaceable value over automation or AI.

Excited about her chosen path, Jackie initially hesitated due to doubts about her English proficiency. However, she decided to take a chance, thinking, “I wasn’t sure my English was good enough. But, why not? I should try it!” So Jackie applied to Blanche Macdonald, a decision that would lead to the most transformative year of her life.

“I was 36 or 37 when I started their Global Esthetics / Medical Esthetics and I felt so old. But, I always felt ‘Why not? You should do it!’ And I was right, age didn’t matter. Everyone in the class was motivating and teaching each other, studying together, and giving tips. It was possibly the most challenging and rewarding year of my life.”

Embracing opportunities: Education and Growth

Jackie’s education at Blanche Macdonald gave her the theoretical foundation needed to excel as an Advanced Skin Specialist and Laser Esthetics Technician at SKN Clinic. From Halo Hybrid Fractional Lasers to Skin Tightening Lasers and more, she feels confident and knowledgeable in her work. Understanding the theory behind procedures ensures safety and effectiveness, a lesson she appreciates from her time at Blanche.

Fostering connections: Joy in Client Care

Jackie, an enthusiastic medical esthetician, derives joy from witnessing her clients flourishing and cherishing the bonds she forms with them. She draws motivation from their smiles, especially as they overcome skin conditions like acne, eczema, and rosacea. Her role extends beyond external treatments; she finds beauty in addressing internal needs, fostering both physical and emotional well-being. Proud of her journey, Jackie maintains a forward-looking attitude, embracing life’s adventures with optimism and a belief in destiny’s course.
