Spring Blossoms in Vancouver: The 2024 Cherry Blossom Festival

As winter draws to a close, it’s time to embrace the arrival of spring. Vancouver’s landscape is adorned with over 43,000 cherry trees, presenting more than 50 unique varieties or ‘cultivars’ across the city. We’re excited to announce the Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival, taking place from March 29 to April 25, 2024!

Blossoms After Dark

Come along for an enchanting stroll amidst the glowing cherry blossoms. Be prepared for delightful surprises at every turn – from live performers and delectable food trucks to engaging activities and breathtaking photo moments beneath the cherry blossom canopies.

When: March 29-31, 6:00PM-10:00PM (each evening)

Where: David Lam Park, 1300 Pacific Blvd

The Big Picnic

When 100 Akebono cherry trees bloom, it’s a magical event! Join in honouring Dr. David Lam’s donation and celebrate friendship under the cherry trees in Yaletown. Enjoy local talent on the Cherry Jam Stage and fun activities. All are welcome! 

When: March 30, 09:30 – 16:00

Sakura Days Japan Fair

Sakura Days Japan Fair celebrates Japanese culture with food, performances, and art. Enjoy outdoor activities like Taiko drumming and theatre, and indoor experiences including tea ceremonies and Japanese games. Explore vendors offering local food, crafts, and goods.

When: April 13 – 14

Where: VanDusen Botanical Garden, 5251 Oak Street

Haiku Invitational

The Haiku Invitational, an international online contest, draws submissions worldwide. The top poems in six categories will be featured in newsletters and online publications and showcased with celebrity readings during the Festival. They will also be highlighted in the Haiku Exhibition, transformed into visual art by talented artists. Additionally, judges select poems for “Sakura Awards” and “Honourable Mention” to encourage further engagement with this poetic form.

When: March 1 – June 1

Pop-Up Events

The Pop-Up Pavilion travels to neighbourhoods, celebrating spring and cherry blossoms. It hosts performances, activities, and community partners, fostering inclusivity across Greater Vancouver. Programmed collaboratively with each community and the VCBF, it engages citizens of all ages with support from the Young Leaders of Tomorrow.

Tree Talks and Walks

Join Tree Talks & Walks for guided tours led by local experts exploring Vancouver’s urban ecosystem. Participants learn about the city’s trees and history while appreciating nature. Registration is required, with limited spots available for each walk. Check the updated Registration Policy for details.

Haiku Exhibition

Experience the Haiku Exhibition, where winning Haiku from the Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival’s Haiku Invitational inspires collaborative art pieces by talented artists. Since 2006, the festival has celebrated global poetic expression, with 16,000+ submissions from 40+ countries. The exhibition showcases winning Haiku through works by Musqueam, Squamish, Tsleil-Waututh, and Japanese-Canadian artists, blending the beauty of words with artistic creativity.


Explore the festival’s workshops, where participants learn, showcase skills, and connect with others. From painting to pottery, immerse in creativity. Stay tuned for exclusive workshop slots. Limited spots are available; registration is required.
