Everything You Need to Know About the Richmond Night Market

If you’ve never experienced a night market before, you might be wondering what all the buzz is about. After all, the Richmond Night Market is one of the most popular summer spots to go to if you’re in the greater Vancouver area!

What is a night market?

A night market is a bustling, open-air marketplace that comes alive after sunset. Originating in Asia, they’ve gained popularity worldwide, becoming staples of urban nightlife in cities across North America and beyond. Unlike traditional daytime markets, night markets feature a lively atmosphere illuminated by colourful lights, and vendors are known to sell everything from street food and snacks to clothing, accessories, souvenirs and handicrafts.

About the Richmond Night Market

The Richmond Night Market (RNM) was first held in 2000 in the parking lot at the Continental Centre in Richmond, British Columbia. Over the years, it has grown into a beloved summer tradition for locals and tourists alike, attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors each season from places like Toronto, Montreal and even Seattle, US. The market was initially inspired by the night markets of Asia, where bustling street markets are a cornerstone of the local culture.

This year, popular stalls and menu items include:

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What can I find at the RNM?

One of the defining characteristics of the RNM is its eclectic mix of Asian cuisine and entertainment. From ramen donuts and kimchi bacon rolls to flying cup noodles and deep-fried sushi tacos, the culinary offerings are as diverse as they are delicious. With more than 110 food stalls and over 600 items to choose from, your taste buds will take a trip around China, South Korea, Japan, Thailand, and much more.

How can I get there?

The RNM is located at 8351 River Rd. in Richmond and is situated directly beside the River Rock Casino, offering visitors the convenience of experiencing two international attractions in a single evening. Visitors from Vancouver can take the Canada Line Skytrain and get off at Bridgeport Station, which is located just five minutes away from the RNM.

When is the RNM open?

The RNM is currently open on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings (and Monday evenings during long weekends). See below for regular and summer hour schedules:

What is the admission fee?

Visitors can purchase a General Admission Pass or a Zoom Pass at the entrance to the RNM. A Zoom Pass allows visitors to experience the RNM without waiting in line, and is transferable between family and friends throughout the entire summer. See below for pricing:

Is the RNM cash-only?

While most vendors accept cash-only, a few offer multiple payment options, including credit and debit cards. To get the most out of your night, be sure to bring both cash and card.

Can I bring my pet with me?

Yes! The RNM is a pet-friendly event and visitors can bring their pets with them if they want to. However, pets must always remain on a leash and owners must clean up after their pets.

How can I avoid the long line-ups?

Although line-ups are inevitable, it’s best to arrive at least 30 minutes before the opening time. Purchasing a Zoom Pass would also allow visitors to skip the lines and enter directly through the Express Entrance.
