5 Most Affordable Gyms for Students in Metro Vancouver 

Finding an affordable gym in Vancouver that caters to the budget of students can be difficult, but we are here to help! Whether you’re looking for a community-centered experience or a more traditional gym environment, there are plenty of options. In this article, we will provide 5 different gyms throughout Metro Vancouver that offer discounted student rates and flexible membership plans. 

1) Community Centres (Various)

There are many community centres across Vancouver that offer affordable gym memberships, and amenities such as swimming pools, saunas, multi-purpose areas, outdoor courts, and indoor gyms. Drop-in and membership fees vary across locations. 

Locations: 

Kitsilano Community Centre: 2690 Larch Street, Vancouver, BC, V6K 4K9 

Burnaby Community Centre: many locations 

Mount Pleasant Community Centre: 1 Kingsway, Vancouver, BC, V5T 3H7 

2) YMCA 

The YMCA is a popular destination for gym-goers due to its affordable membership fee, and the fact that you don’t have to sign a contract when you pay for your membership. Amenities for this gym include access to multiple fitness centres, a swimming pool, drop-in exercise classes (included in membership), and free guest passes that you can offer to friends/family. Youth membership fees (as of 2024) are: $23.49 biweekly, and young adult membership fees are $28.49 biweekly.

3) UBC Student Recreation Centre

The UBC Campus currently offers two different gyms, BirdCoop and the ARC. These gyms are extremely affordable for UBC students with a rate of $50/term. Don’t worry if you aren’t a UBC student though, as members of the public are also able to pay for these facilities at a rate of $60/month. The BirdCoop offers amenities such as Olympic weightlifting platforms, and The Aviary (indoor climbing gym). The ARC offers amenities such as personal training space, and 8,000 sq ft. of multi-purpose space/fitness areas.

4) Anytime Fitness

Anytime Fitness is known for being one of the only gyms in Vancouver open 24 hours a day. This chain is found throughout the Vancouver region and is popular among individuals who are looking for an affordable gym. Fees vary depending on location. 

Location: 4277 Kingsway, Burnaby, BC, V5H 1Z5 

5) Fit4Less 

Known as one of the most affordable gyms in Vancouver, Fit4Less offers membership holders access to all gyms across Canada, as well as amenities such as massage chairs and massage beds. With memberships as low as $7.99 every two weeks (basic package), or $13.99 every two weeks (including friends/family access, tanning amenities, and access to additional gym space). 

Location: 6200 McKay Ave, Burnaby, BC V5H 4L7
