CISM is pleased to announce a collaboration with the University of Toronto’s International Program where we will host a series of LEAP workshops offered at CISM’s Burnaby office!
Two 3-hour LEAP workshops will be hosted on Sunday, September 15th, and Monday, September 16th on the topics of artificial intelligence, and sustainable development goals.
What are LEAP Workshops?
Leadership Education & Academic Preparation (LEAP) workshops prepare high-achieving, high school students for post-secondary education through the development of a transferable skill set. Skills such as leadership, problem solving, meaningful discussion, and academic skill development are enhanced in these workshops, and are essential when preparing for post-secondary. Students learn how to be leaders both within and outside of the classroom, how important interpersonal skills and collaboration are, and why having a variety of perspectives on a subject is crucial for both academic and real-world success. Students who complete this workshop will receive a personalized digital certificate from the University of Toronto that can be added to their CV or future post-secondary supplemental applications.
To enroll in these LEAP workshops, students must be aged 15-18 (high school students), and must be proficient in English (language of facilitation is English). Students can enroll in both workshops, or choose which one they would prefer to attend.
Skills Developed in LEAP Workshops:
Students who attend these workshops will have the opportunity to develop some of these skills:
- Learn leadership skills
- Develop critical thinking skills
- Learn to provide evidence for/against, argue, and defend ideas
- Gain knowledge on academic integrity
- Learn how to question assumptions
- Learn how to collaborate with their peers

Each workshop will focus on one of these topics:

About the Facilitator:
The facilitator for both of these workshops will be Nicola Carozza. Since joining the U of T International Programs Team in 2012, Nicola has instructed students in a wide range of courses offered by both the International Summer Academy and the International Foundation Program. As Assistant Director, Nicola oversees recruiting campaigns and projects, and new program development/collaboration. Serving over 1000 students annually, his extensive background in organizing and facilitating professional development events for English language teaching makes him an ideal facilitator for a workshop of this nature, and an invaluable asset for students who wish to enroll and expand their knowledge.
