1. Alberta
- Care to meet the world’s largest dinosaur? The province hosts some of the most important fossil specimens from the “Age of Dinosaurs” period, in the badlands. In case you want to greet the world’s largest Dinosaur (25 meters tall), Tyra, visit Drumheller, “the dinosaur capital of the world”.
- The city of Calgary organizes its annual Stampede, known as “The Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth”, every summer in July and dazzles visitors from all over the world, with its traditional agricultural showcases, rodeo events/races, and live entertainment.
- Wood Buffalo National Park is the largest park in Canada and it hosts the largest beaver dam that can be -literally- seen from space. So if you want to meet the Canadian national animal, this could be the perfect place to say “hi” to a bunch of beavers.
2. British Columbia
- As the province with the largest amount of mountains, British Columbia hosts the Canadian Rockies, Coast Mountains, Cassiar Mountains, Columbia Mountains and more! So, if you love hiking and nature, visit B.C.
- A little over half of Canada’s total wine production comes from here because of its high grape cultivations. The wine industry supports 12,000 people around the province!
- UNESCO recognized 5 World Heritage Sites in BC such as: Burgess Shale in Yoho National Park, Canadian Rocky Mountain Parks, Tatshenshini-Alsek Provincial Park, Clayoquot Sound Biosphere Reserve on Vancouver Island, and SGang Gwaay Llnagaay in the Haida Gwaii archipelago. All of them are perfect to appreciate nature.
3. Manitoba
- The city of Churchil is nicknamed as the “Polar Bear Capital of the World” because it has a large number of polar bears close to Hudson’s Bay (this bay is where the famous Canadian brand’s name comes from).
- Manitoba contains more than 100,000 lakes, including Lake Winnipeg, one one of the world’s largest inland bodies of freshwater.
- Have you ever been to a Human Rights Museum? Manitoba has one and it is the first and only museum to be built outside of Canada’s capital region (Ottawa), displaying Canadian history in a dynamic and fun way.
4. Ontario
- Ontario is home to Canada’s capital city, Ottawa, and also the most famous city in the country, Toronto. And no, they are not the same!
- The province is larger than Spain and France combined as it covers around one million square kilometers.
- Yonge Street is the longest street in the world, according to the Guinness Book of World Records. It runs for 56 km and roars through Toronto, right into the sub-Arctic, and ends close to the U.S. border at Rainy River, Minnesota. Would you walk that long for the experience? It could be worth it!
