The University of Toronto International Summer Academy is a vibrant academic experience that welcomes students from more than 50 countries. This inspiring program immerses international students in university life at U of T, helping them strengthen their language skills, explore new ideas, and prepare for future academic success.
The summer courses run for three weeks, with 15 hours of classes per week, offering both morning and afternoon sessions, along with evening events and weekend trips. Students live at New College Residence, enjoying a safe, secure environment with meal plans included.

The International Summer Academy includes three main programs tailored for different age groups and goals:
- International English Program (Ages 18+)

International English Program (Ages 18+)
The International English Program offers Morning and Afternoon Courses for learners of all English levels, from beginner to university-ready. While not required, students are encouraged to take both to enhance their learning experience.

Morning Courses:
- General English Course – For students of all levels, focusing on speaking, listening, writing, reading, grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation through interactive communication activities.
- Academic English Course – Ideal for students preparing for post-secondary study, this course develops academic English skills through critical reading, lecture content, seminar participation, and research.
- Culture & Community Course – Explore Toronto’s multicultural identity and Canadian communication styles while developing intercultural awareness through collaborative community projects.
Afternoon Course:
- Words in Motion Course – Focuses on mediation and adaptation across languages and media — transforming ideas into action through stories, social media, infographics, and articles.
- Discuss to Debate Course – Enhance your critical thinking and persuasive communication skills through structured debate and discussion, gaining confidence and fluency in English.

Youth International English Program (Ages 13–18)
Designed to support the learning goals of diverse youth, the Youth IEP is a summer camp for students aged 13–18 at all English levels. It offers personalized academic, social, and cultural experiences that build English proficiency and a sense of global connection.

Morning Courses:
- General English Course (GEC) – Strengthens students’ English skills in speaking, listening, reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation — through engaging activities such as collaborative projects, discussions, and presentations.
Age: 13-18 | Sessions: June/July/August
- IELTS Preparation Course (IPC) – Focuses on building test-taking strategies and the skills for students planning to take the IELTS exam.
Age: 15-18 | Sessions: July/August
- Academic Preparation Course (APC) – Develops critical reading, seminar participation, research, and genre-specific writing skills for university success through content from the social sciences and humanities.
Age: 15-18 | Sessions: June/July/August
Afternoon Courses:
- Read, Write & Remix Course (RWRC) – Learn to adapt English for different audiences using real content like stories and social media while building creativity, critical thinking, and teamwork skills.
Age: 13-18 | Sessions: June/July/August
- Culture & Community Course (CCC) – Explores cultural diversity, communication, and global citizenship through community-based projects and intercultural activities.
Age: 15-18 | Sessions: July/August
- Global Commerce Course (GCC) – Combines language learning with real-world business and leadership skills, helping students apply English in international commerce and teamwork.

- World Economics – Explore global economic systems and how economic choices shape society, trade, and development. Through real-world case studies, students apply key economic concepts and reasoning while strengthening academic and critical thinking skills for university success.
- Language & Literature – Strengthen academic reading, writing, and literary analysis skills through discussion of novels, poetry, and creative works. Ideal for students interested in humanities, social sciences, or storytelling.
- Law, Ethics & Society – Explore legal systems, rights, and social responsibility through case studies and debates. Students examine ethical decision-making and contemporary issues while building academic and critical thinking skills for university success.
- Sciences Across the Spectrum – Explore biology, chemistry, physics, and environmental science through inquiry and hands-on learning. Develop scientific thinking, research, and academic skills—ideal preparation for future STEM studies.
- Global Leadership: Food Insecurity – Analyze global food systems and sustainability challenges through collaborative problem-solving and project presentations.
Afternoon Courses:
- Applied Mathematics in Statistics – Learn core principles of mathematical statistics and data analysis while exploring cognitive bias, game theory, and decision-making. Through projects and discussions, students build analytical and academic skills for university success.
- Film & Cinema Studies – Study film genres, visual storytelling, and production techniques while developing critical analysis, creative expression, and academic skills through screenings, discussions, and a final project.
- Social Psychology in Action – Examine how human behavior is influenced by social situations, group dynamics, relationships, and environment. Students engage in reflection, discussion, and collaborative research to explore social psychology concepts.
- Game Studies – Explore game theory, strategic thinking, and how algorithms and AI use games to solve problems across various fields.
- Global Leadership Course: Sustainable Cities – Use design thinking and collaboration to create sustainable, inclusive, and resilient urban solutions while building leadership and research skills.
