Fraser International College (FIC) is located on Simon Fraser University’s (SFU) Burnaby campus. Foundation Program

1️⃣University Transfer Program Stage I (UTP Stage I)

After successfully completing this program, students will progress to International Year One (UTP Stage II). 

This foundation program is designed to prepare students for entry to university-level programs in:

• Business Administration
• Computing Science
• Engineering Science or Arts
• Social Sciences

Course Duration: 2 terms

Intakes: January, May and September

Course Schedule:

• Spring: ECN 100, IUW 100, PHIL 120, PWR 101, UNI 101 and ENF 100
• Summer: COM 002, IND 100, ESR 100, WIS 100 and ENF 100
• Fall: UNI 101, INS 101, BUS 108, MOD 101 and ENF 100

2️⃣International Year One (UTP Stage II)

Program Options:

• Associate of Arts Degree
• Arts and Social Sciences
• Business Administration
• Communication, Art and Technology
• Computing Science
• Engineering Science
• Environment
• Health Sciences

Requirements: 

• Must successfully complete a minimum of eight courses
• Achieve a minimum GPA of 2.5 based on eight courses 

Associate of Art Degree

• 2-year degree program
• Students may transfer to the relevant third year degree program at SFU or other institutions after completion
• Students are required to complete 60 credits in this program:
  • 6 credits in first-year English
  • 9 credits in Science which shall include at least:
    • 3 credits in Mathematics or Computing Science or Statistics
    • 3 credits in a laboratory science
  • 36 credits in Arts which shall include:
    • 6 credits in the Social Sciences
    • 6 credits in Humanities (other than English)
    • 24 additional credits in Arts
  • 9 credits in Arts, Science or other area

• Special requirements:
  • Minimum 18 (200-level) credits in general arts in two or more subject areas
  • CGPA of 2.0

📝General Admission Requirements

At FIC, all students must turn 17 by the last day of their first semester to be admitted. 

Associate of Arts Degree or International  Foundation (UTP Stage I)  

• Completion of Year 12 of secondary school, or
• Equivalent with overall and individual subject requirements depending on program 

Year One (UTP Stage II) 

• Completion of Year 11, or
• Equivalent with overall and individual subject requirements depending on program 

Mathematics Requirements

(UTP Stage II) in the Computing Science, Environment and Engineering Science streams 

• Require: completion of secondary school mathematics

Business Administration, Computing Science, Environment, or Engineering Science program 

• Require: FIC Math Check 
• Pre-Calculus course in the first term of International Year One (UTP Stage II) as a prerequisite to the required math course 

Science Requirements

Following are requirements for students who want to enter the Science stream:

• A minimum Math 12 and two Grade 12 Science subjects (Biology 12, Chemistry 12, Physics 12), or
• to meet International Year One (UTP Stage II) courses prerequisites, following students will be admitted into the Science Fundamentals Program:
  • A student does not have Grade 12 Math or has less than a 75% average in Grade 12 Math
  • A student does not have two science subjects meeting the following requirement:
    • 65% average in Grade 12 Biology
    • 60% average in Grade 12 Chemistry
    • 60% average in Grade 12 Physics
