📰 School Feature: Engineering Innovation in Breast Cancer Screening
The University of Manitoba is applying Electrical and Computer Engineering to real-world healthcare innovation. In summer 2026, undergraduate engineering student Nolan Card joined Professor Joe LoVetri’s research team through an Undergraduate Research Award to support the development of a next-generation breast cancer screening system. The project combines ultrasound and microwave imaging and uses breast-tissue and tumour models to test and calibrate the technology. This research highlights how Electrical and Computer Engineering can connect imaging, sensing, electronics and medical applications, while giving undergraduate students hands-on experience in innovative engineering research.
