United States to reopen border with Canada Starting November

From November, the United States will reopen its land border to people not traveling for urgent reasons. Alejandro Mayorkas, the Secretary of Homeland Security, announced that fully vaccinated travellers arriving from Canada and Mexico will be permitted entry from both land and sea ports.

815,800 Vacant Jobs and Labour Shortages in Canada

According to Statistics Canada’s job vacancy report, 129,100 accommodations and food services jobs remained vacant in June as restaurants began reopening. This sector had more openings than health care and social assistance, which had the most vacancies the previous month. The retail trade sector in Canada ranks third. Job vacancies in food services drove up the number of vacant positions in Canada. A total of 815,800 jobs were advertised in June, up 22 percent from May. The majority of these openings were in the service sectors.

International Student at University of the Fraser Valley Awarded Medal for Social Justice Art Project

International Student Faria Firoz moved to Canada from Bangladesh with her husband Mynol Vhuiyan in 2016. She has lived in Canada for just 5 years and already have made a recognition as an International Student by using her art to advocate for social issues.
She is one of the four artists who worked on the Black Lives Matter (BLM) social justice art project. The project was launched on June 12 at the University of the Fraser Valley (UFV) in response to the BLM movement. Her commitment to advocacy has earned Firoz the 2021 Lieutenant Governor’s medal at the UFV.
The criteria for the Lieutenant Governor’s medal include student’s involvement in promoting diversity, inclusion, and reconciliation.

New Work Permit Application

Canada Opens New Work Permit Application for International Graduates

Last May 6, 2021 IRCC opened a temporary pathway to permanent residency for 40,000 international students, alongside 20,000 temporary workers in health care and 30,000 temporary workers for other essential occupations. The temporary public policy was supposed to run until November 2021, or until the caps were reached, whichever comes first – to no surprise at all, international graduates were fast to fill up the quota and the application closed the following day; while the portal is still open for the essential workers. Throughout the pandemic, Canada has imposed a lot of measures to continuously support its immigration plan that targets to have at least 401,000 immigrants for 2021. The candidates selected for this temporary public policy have been chosen as they are proven fit to fill labor gaps.
